I was looking through some old files and found this. No idea of the source, but it is fab!
A well- known speaker held up a $20 bill to a group of 200 people. “Who wants this $20 bill? All 200 hands went up. He said ” I am going to give this to one of you, but first, I am going to do this.” He took the bill and crumpled it up, even stepping on it several times.
He said “Now, who wants this $2o bill?” All 200 hands still went up. He said “Friends, you have learned a very valuable lesson here. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It is still worth $20.
Sometimes in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, ground into the dirt because of decisions we makes, or situations we find ourselves in. We feel as though we are useless, and that we have no value. But no matter happened or will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who love you. the worth in our lives cannot come from what we do or who we know. It’s who we are.”

Julie,
That is a nice story and I know that it is true, but it still does not take away the feelings that men in particular are feeling without a job. I have been out of work for 23 months and coming from someone that has worked as many as 3 jobs, not being able to support my wife has trampled my will and crushed my spirit. And the worst part is that I am not alone.
The latest job market report says that unemployment has dropped to 9%, but it is also being described as not good news because of the fact that 55,000 people have given up on finding a job and are not counted in the unemployment rate. I think that depression has taken over desperation and they have finally quit trying. I have taught classes on the “men vs women” mind games that happen, and without sounding sexist, I agree that men in general take this harder than most women.
I continue to search daily. I work as many as 5 part time jobs to bring in what I can, and I support my wife (who is working ful time) by doing all the housework so all she has to concentrate on is her job.
Thanks for your blog and thanks for letting me vent.
Kevin.
Hi Kevin… I am so sorry to hear that. I know it sucks beyond words. I would like to send u a copy of my book. It is 100 pages, a quick read, and i promise it will give u some good ideas. Pls send me your address. Most times, there is an issue of HOW the search is being conducted that may be tweaked easily that may change your outcomes. Obviously ur a hard worker, which employers always look for!
